Dear Fellow Horse Lovers:
I am writing you today to express my gratitude towards April Horowitz and The Heart of a Horse Foundation. I am currently employed at the Humane Society of Ventura County. During my five years as a Humane Officer I have never come across a horse rescue as compassionate, and hard working as H.O.A.H. April and her team continue to strive for success, show generosity, and have proven themselves to be dedicated individuals.
In 2008,The Humane Society was involved in a massive horse neglect case on a property in Lockwood Valley California. The property had well over 100 horses. Most were pregnant mares and newborn babies. The Humane Society took in 37 horses, 8 in which were pregnant. Out of all the horses we currently have two that remain up for adoption. Luckily during our most crucial time, when donations were down, April stepped in and introduced herself to us. April spoke about her hay stamp program, and generously donated numerous bails of hay and feed for our rescued horses. She also has created and directed a video/documentary about the Lockwood Valley Rescue. April has donated the video in efforts to help the with Humane Society fund-raising. She has also included myself, the Humane Society, and the Lockwood horses in promotional videos, events and the H.O.A.H website.
It has been an honor getting to know April she is an outstanding selfless person. I consider myself very luck to have worked with her over the years. I cannot think of a more deserving horse rescue organization. I am confident that H.O.A.H will continue to be fantastic contributors to our community.

My Name is Dr. Kevin Smith and I am a mobile Veterinarian working in the greater Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara County area. My main focus is mobile equine medicine. I have known April for years and I find her to be a consistent professional person with the highest moral values and integrity.
She has dedicated herself completely to help horses in need through the Heart of a Horse Foundation. I have seen her time and time again reach out to support the health and wellbeing of horses through her feeding and education programs. April Has rallied the troops when a horse or horses are in need of help. The type of dedication it takes to make this happen is endless hours of hard work. Because of April’s efforts and that of The Heart of a Horse Foundation, hundreds of horses are safe and thousands of people have a higher level of understanding of horses in our world.
It is not hard to say more but, her work speaks volumes. It is people like April that make our communities a better place in which to live in.
