The horses equivalent of photo bombing

This is Roy my AQHA 11yrs old and 16 hh I’ve only had him for 3 weeks. When I test rode him, he didn’t even move; just began bucking and stepped on me. 3 weeks later here, he is on the trails.
I bought him because the first time I rode him he showed a lot of attitude; I think attitude in a horse is the best thing. We’ve gained each other’s trust just by walking down the road in hand for two weeks…with that I would use treats as a reward teaching him to bow and lay down on command.
We don’t really have a special story yet. I mean I think he’s pretty special because he’s done a total 360 on his temperament. We used to have a mare that could never get near him because he would act like a stud… I think he’s done absolutely great with his progress. We have him jumping 2ft already and going around barrels. He’s just absolutely fantastic.

All my life horses have been the been a huge part of my life, but it wasn’t until the last few years did I realize how important they really are to me. This is my horse Parker. He’s a 23 year old Quarter Horse. I’ve had him for about 5 years now & he’s probably the best thing that has ever come into my life.
He & I are similar in many ways, & we didn’t always see eye to eye when we first became friends. He was always hyper, anxious & nervous about the most random things that a horse should never be worried about. But like us all, he has a past; he has been abused, he has physical scars from them. When I saw these things the only thing I wanted to do was show him that I will never hurt him.
He didn’t always live with me, but when he came to my grandparents, it was the best thing I have ever got in my life. All his life all he’s done is roped, & at the beginning I rode him for break away roping & just casual riding. Although we no longer rope because I believe he has earned the right to a life that doesn’t need to work so vigorously for. We first got connected while we roped together, I learned to trust him & he learned to trust me. I still remember the day I realized that he finally trusted me with anything & everything.
He wouldn’t do the simplest things like walk through trees. Now if I ask him to stand upside down in a tree I’m sure he’d try his best. I’ve never felt connected like that, & I’m so proud of him simply for the fact that he’s been hurt & used by so many moron people that he could give me a chance. He’s the best thing that has ever come into my life & if he could talk I hope he’d say that same.
We’ve been through alot together, & who ever says he’s “just a horse”….they’ve obviously never owned something like that. He’s my world, he’s my best friend. He’s one of the only happiness that I’ve found that to this day, have never let me down even when things got rough. Never give up on something or someone you love just because the beginning is a little rough.
